Abstract

Logic is performed on magnetic thin film cylindrical device 10. Common bit-sense drive line 2 runs longitudinally through device 10. Line 2 is effective to establish a magnetic component circumferentially around the cylinder in the direction of the easy axis. Windings W1 and W2 represent adjacent word drive windings and are disposed circumferentially about device 10. W1 and W2 have sufficient separation to avoid interference with each other. Each is independently effective to establish a magnetic field component in the magnetic hard direction of the device. Logic readout drive 4 is wound circumferentially intermediate windings W1 and W2.

Pulses of the same polarity and of a limited magnitude on windings W1 and W2 serve to orient the magnetization vector in the magnetic film between them so that the application of a pulse on drive 4 produces a readout pulse on line 2. Pulses of opposite polarity and of limited magnitude on windings W1 and W2 orient the magnetic film between them so that the application of a pulse on drive 4 produces no readout pulse on line 2.
