Abstract

The device in A provides the Exclusive Or function x. y or x. y. Thus, if x, but not y, is charged, pressure fluid unseats diaphragm 10, flows past ridge 11 and via choke 12 to output O. Meanwhile, some of the pressure fluid flows via branch 13 to seat diaphragm 14 against ridge 15 to seal off y from O. Similarly, if y, but not x, is charged, 10 is seated against 11, but 14 is unseated from 15, allowing flow from y via 12 to O. If both x and y are charged, 14 seats against 15 and 10 seats against 11, thus preventing flow to O.

If x, but not y, is charged, diaphragm 32 seats against ridge 33 to prevent flow via chokes 34, 35 to output 02. With 32 seated, pressure in 23 seats 24 against 25. Pressure fluid from Ps unseats 30 and flows past 31 via 26 to 01. This is because pressure in 29 is reduced due to flow via choke 36 to chamber 37 and thence via unseated diaphragm 38 and choke 40 to output O3.
