Central processor 10 transmits control signals and data signals to peripheral device 11 and receives like signals from the device by frequency modulation.

In processor 10 is a circuit 12 for providing control over signal transmission. A similar control 14 is provided in device 11. Signals are transmitted by circuits such as 18 and 27 at the processor 10 and received by circuits such as 20 and 29 in device 11.

In operation, circuits which have the same function both at the peripheral units and the processor have the same carrier frequency. A function such as Select Out operates a variable frequency oscillator 49 to generate a carrier frequency on circuit 18, which is received by circuit 20 at device 11 and develops a Select Out signal.

In order that other processors similar to 10 and peripheral units similar to 11 can operate with the same carrier frequencies, but with discrimination between systems in proximity to one another, modulating oscillators such as 33 and 39, and tunable band pass filters such as 41, 43, 45, and 37 are provided. The dotted line connecting the modulating oscillators and band pass filters indicates that these elements can be set to generate and accept a modulating frequency common to a single processor and its set of peripheral units. Each carrier frequency is thus modulated with a frequency individual to a system which is accepted only by the band pass filters of that particular system.
