Abstract

Disposed in sandwiched relation with the sheet 12 are a layer of electro-optic material 14, a transparent ground plane 15 and a polarizer and ultraviolet radiation attenuator 16.

Display Device

In this display device, electron gun 10 is adapted to write with electron beam 11 on a sheet of transparent photoconductor 12 under control of deflection and focusing apparatus 13. Disposed in sandwiched relation with the sheet 12 are a layer of electro-optic material 14, a transparent ground plane 15 and a polarizer and ultraviolet radiation attenuator 16.

Electron gun 10 deposits a charge pattern on sheet 12 which creates a field between the charge pattern and plane 15. A visible display of the charge pattern is produced on viewing screen 17, when polarized light source 18 is energized. The pattern is erased by applying a flash of ultraviolet radiation from source 19 which discharges the pattern.

Sheet 12 is relatively insensitive to radiations from source 18 and relatively sensitive to ultraviolet radiations. This permits the display to be observed on screen 17 without discharging or erasing the pattern on sheet 12.
