Packaging of Miniature Lens End Lamps

Lamp assembly 10 produces a focused elliptical light pattern 11. This projects onto rectangular photosensitive element 20 attached to mounting member 21.

Pattern 11 is oriented to fill area 20. Lamp 12 is situated in housing 13 such that pattern 11 is properly oriented with respect to 20. Lamp 12 has a lens 14 at its tip and is aligned within housing 13 by permitting the lens to project slightly through aperture 15.

In order to assure that pattern 11 fills area 20, during the assembly process, lead 16 is attached to base 17 so as to be parallel to filament 18. Lamp 12 is then placed in housing 13 so that lead 16 enters into notch 19. Silicone rubber is poured into housing 13 to provide cushioning layer 25. The end of housing 13 from which the leads project is potted with an epoxy resin to lend mechanical rigidity to the assembly.
