Bending Apparatus for Thermoplastic Plate

The apparatus bends a plate of thermoplastic material over a great length, e.
g., 50 cm, and with a small bending radius, e. g., 0. 5 mm, without burning or discoloring the material.

A 0.4 mm tungsten wire, sheathed in polymerized tetrafluoro ethylene, is clamped at one end and is strained by means of a pulley and a weight. The tungsten wire is heated by a variable transformer. The plate is marked, gently pushed with its markings against the heated wire, and bent around it. The wire sheathing prevents the plate material from adhering to the wire.
