Connector Pin Extractor Tool

A tool for extracting connector pins from sockets is shown in drawing 1. In the example, pins 1 are rigidly mounted on a board 2 and sockets 3 are attached to flexible tape 4.

The tool consists of two main members 5 and 6 pivoted at one end by fulcrum pin 7. The two members are biased apart by compression spring 8. The end of member 6, remote from pin 7, has a castellated portion 9 for fitting round pins 1 and under sockets 3.

Drawing 2 shows the tool inserted prior to removal of pins 1 from sockets 3. Members 6 and 7 are squeezed together at tabs 10 and 11, as shown in drawing
3. This causes the ends of 6 and 7 to move apart compressing spring 8. All sockets 3 are lifted off pins 1 evenly. The direction of extraction is in line with the axis of the pins thus preventing damage.
