Abstract

This is an adding technique which reduces the usual number of addition cycles for base B, other than 2/n/, where n is the number of bits in a character. The results of the add cycle 1 are used to decide whether to add a correction during the carry cycle 2, i.e., a fix up number 0110, to be added to force a carry if the sum from cycle 1 exceeds or is equal B, is less than B as a result of exceeding 2/n/, or is one less than B. Carry correct cycle 2 is followed by carry cycle 3 to propagate the resulting interbit carries.
