The circuit monitors serial data signals representing, for example, time sampled blood pressure measurements and activates a warning light when three consecutive out of limits measurements are detected. In addition, the circuit controls printout of the out of limits measurements.

When a first out of limits measurement is detected, a signal is received on line 10 which sets trigger 1, causing the measurement to be printed. The same signal, together with a timing pulse, operates through And 2 to cause the printing of an asterisk to identify the out of limits measurement. In addition, the first out of limits pulse is gated through And 3 to set trigger 4, which is the first stage of a binary counter comprising triggers 4 and 5. A second out of limits signal immediately following the first resets 4 which in turn sets 5. A third consecutive out of limits signal sets 4, causing And 6 to set trigger 7, which actuates a warning light.

Any in limits signal received on line 11 is gated through And 8 and resets 1, 4 and 5. This restores the counter to zero and deactivates the print control. The warning light is turned off through manual reset switch 9. The circuit thus causes all out of limits measurements to be recorded, but does not give a visual warning signal unless three such measurements are consecutively detected.
