Automatic Diagram Reader for Input Device

This is a diagram reading device which by means of an analog to digital converter provides digital values of scanned diagram form.

The diagram form is drawn with black ink on a transparent paper 1 moving between a cathode ray tube CRT 2 and a solar cell SC 3.

The vertical position of the CRT spot is conditioned by a step function generator SFG 4 which operates at high speed. Each time the spot reaches the diagram track a SC output variation occurs. The number of steps needed to obtain such a variation gives the digital value of the diagram ordinate. The step number is provided by a counter 5.

A clock provides pulses for setting and resetting SFG4 and counter 5.

The output signals of Counter 5 and SC 3 are fed to And's 7 which connect the Counter to an Input Output Device IOD 6.

A Control Unit conditioned by IOD 6 and by synchronization signals from Diagram Form Drive controls the diagram form start stop and the Analog to Digital Converter. IOD 6 and Reader operate asynchronously.
