Abstract

This is a method for manually setting a digit counter wheel 1. This can be rotated one complete revolution at a time to increase the setup speed. Wheel 1 is mounted on shaft 2 and carries a hub 3. Hub 3 is helically grooved to receive one turn of flexible wire 4. This passes through mounting plate 5 and is attached to setting knob 6. At its other end, wire 4 is attached by a spring 7 to case 8. The tension of spring 7 is such that wheel 1 can be set by the counting mechanism, not shown, in the normal way, slipping taking place between the wire and the extension 3.

Manual Setup Device for Digit Counters

When wheel 1 is set manually, setting knob 6 is pulled causing wire 4 to grip hub 3. The arrangement is such that when spring 7 is fully extended, wheel 1 rotates by one complete revolution. Detent 9 has an end 10 for engaging a toothed wheel 11, fixed to wheel 1 and hub 3. Detent 9 locates wheel 1, when it has been rotated and prevents any reverse rotation. Latch lever 12 can be moved in the direction of the arrow shown to latch detent 9 and prevent undesired rotation of wheel 1, After manual setting, setting knob 6 is released and spring 7 returns knob 6 to its original position, wire 4 slipping around the hub
3.
