Neon Photoconductor Circuit

In this neon-photoconductor circuit, a photoconductor is connected in shunt with the neon lamp which illuminates it. This is in addition to the normal output photoconductor 1.

Turn-on speed of the neon in response to light received by control photoconductor 2 is improved. This is because the total neon circuit dark impedance is increased by appropriate increase in parameters such as fixed resistance 3.

When the neon is on, the PC shunt has a regulating effect to stabilize the neon current, thus compensating for device tolerances and system voltage variations. Turn-off speed is improved because the PC shunt does not recover its dark impedance as rapidly as the control photoconductor 2.
