This connector provides high density connection between multi or single layer logic cards where high speed inputs, low noise pickup and quick disconnect features are required.

The connector has a plurality of laminated layers of tape cables 20, 30 and 40 with shielding material, not shown, between each layer. The shielding material can also be applied on the upper and lower sides of the tape cable layers, if desired. At each end of the cable layers, terminal members 24 are formed. A terminal block 26 is arranged to have a plurality of rows of connecting points 28. The connecting points can be circuit lands 31 to which the terminals 24 can be soldered. Alternatively, the circuit lands can have drilled holes 32 for receiving and soldering the terminals 24 in the drilled holes.

In either case, however, pluggable male contacts 34 are secured to the terminal points. The male contacts are connected to the terminal points by plated-through holes. After the terminals 24 are electrically and mechanically connected to the contacts 34, the top of the connector is covered with a molded epoxy compound 36. This provides an effective housing for the area where the terminals and the contacts join. The molded connector block can then be connected to a multilayer logic card 41. The card has layers 50, 60 and 70. Each layer has printed circuitry 52 on it. The circuitry can be adapted to connect to the various rows of contact terminals.
