Abstract

The fluid-operated keyboard attachment automatically actuates the keys of a business machine, e. g., an electric typewriter, under control of a punched record member, e. g., paper tape. The device has a multiple-channel sensing station for a 7-channel paper tape record carrier, a valve-operated decoding network and the key actuators.

Fluid Operated Keyboard Attachment

The fluid-operated keyboard attachment automatically actuates the keys of a business machine, e. g., an electric typewriter, under control of a punched record member, e. g., paper tape. The device has a multiple-channel sensing station for a 7-channel paper tape record carrier, a valve-operated decoding network and the key actuators.

The sensing station is connected with the decoding network by the pressure input channels A... G. The network is a combination of Valve Decoding Trees and a Valve Matrix arrangement, shown, for example in U. S. patents 3, 010, 649 and 3, 070,295, respectively. The design of the Valve Matrices is such that each output lead situated at the matrix intersections corresponds to the position of the typewriter keys.

The matrices are incorporated in the keyboard attachment, which is mounted directly on top of the keyboard of the business machine. Provision is made so that the individual keys can also be manually operated.
