Abstract

This is a resonator 10 including a magnetostrictive drive device 11 which comprises a magnetostrictive rod 12 of a quarter-wave length and a drive coil 13. Rod 12 is fixed to wire 14 also of a quarter-wave length and to diaphragm 15, fixed to a base 16. Rod 12 is moved longitudinally due to magnetostrictive action when coil 13 is energized.

This is a resonator 10 including a magnetostrictive drive device 11 which comprises a magnetostrictive rod 12 of a quarter-wave length and a drive coil 13. Rod 12 is fixed to wire 14 also of a quarter-wave length and to diaphragm 15, fixed to a base 16. Rod 12 is moved longitudinally due to magnetostrictive action when coil 13 is energized.

Diaphragm 15 is operated at mechanical resonance. It amplifies the vibrations of rod 12 and couples these amplified vibrations to wire 14 for use in,
e. g., a printer. Diaphragm 15 also causes the vibrations to dampen out quickly. This provides a quick, clean printing impact.
