Abstract

One of the operations in the manufacture of solid logic modules is that of tinning the circuits and connectors. A machine for performing this operation consists of a series of stations at which the module is fluxed, preheated, dipped and then the flux removed. These operations consume differing time periods and do not all finish at the same instant. Therefore, any feed for carrying the modules through the machine must be held stationary during the longest operating cycle.

Solid Logic Module Tinning

One of the operations in the manufacture of solid logic modules is that of tinning the circuits and connectors. A machine for performing this operation consists of a series of stations at which the module is fluxed, preheated, dipped and then the flux removed. These operations consume differing time periods and do not all finish at the same instant. Therefore, any feed for carrying the modules through the machine must be held stationary during the longest operating cycle.

The feed is a chain 10 carried on four sprockets 11 one of which is driven intermittently by rack 12 and pinion 14 that is connected to shaft 13 through a one revolution clutch. Rack 12 is raised by air cylinder 15 until pawl 16 engages a notch in disc 17.

After a predetermined time interval, pawl 16 is disengaged by a cam, not shown, on rack 12 as it drops to start a new increment of feed.

Carried by chain 10 and removable from it is a plurality of carriers 18 on which the modules are loaded. Mounted on platform 20 are cylinders 21 that raise and lower flux bath 22, preheater 23, tank 24 containing a bath of a low percentage of tin to lead, tank 25 containing a bath of a high percentage of tin to lead, bath 26 for removal of flux and bath 27 into which the modules are dropped. These are stripped from a carrier by comb 28 as the chain feed moves.
