Lamina Storage Device Including a Comparer Arrangement

The arrangement effects a high-low comparison of two values read in succession from punched cards and entered into a rotating mechanical storage unit. Contact paths in storage disks and two relays for each card column are used.

Each card column has a uniformly rotating storage disk 1 carrying two diametrically positioned sets of twelve storage laminae 2. Each storage lamina 2 is fixedly associated with a respective one of index points R, X, 0...9. In the inoperative condition, the free ends of laminae 2 move freely above a guide bar. In the storage condition, they slide below the guide bar, making contact with it. They are moved to their storage positions by armature 3 of the input magnet. The stored values are read out by sensing contact 4. For comparison purposes, the guide bar is subdivided into insulating sections 5, 7 and 9 and conductive contact paths 6 and 8. When armature 3 moves a lamina into its storage position, contact 10 between the positive line and that storage lamina is closed at the same time.

If now the same value had been stored in the other, preceding set of laminae, a circuit is not established as the corresponding lamina of that set seats on the insulating section 7 at that time. On the other hand, if a lower value had been stored, the corresponding lamina now engages the contact path 6, picking up relay 11.
