Abstract

When magnetic film memory elements are deposited in the usual way on a glass substrate, skew results. Skew is the angular deviation of the actual easy axis of a particular film bit from the preferred direction of the easy axis. Skew is particularly pronounced near the edges and corners of the substrate.

When magnetic film memory elements are deposited in the usual way on a glass substrate, skew results. Skew is the angular deviation of the actual easy axis of a particular film bit from the preferred direction of the easy axis. Skew is particularly pronounced near the edges and corners of the substrate.

Average skew is reduced to a point approaching zero when a mica substrate is substituted for the glass substrate previously used. Vacuum deposition is conducted in the usual way.
