The system is an arrangement which gives a greater continuity and sensitivity to formant tracking in a frequency responsive system. This has a plurality of paralleled outputs such as may be found, e. g., in speech analysis systems of the formant location type.

Outputs from a plurality of frequency selective filters FS1... FS9 are supplied through individual rectifying circuits R1... R9 and thence to balanced discriminator circuits B1, B2, etc., one for each adjacent pair of rectified outputs. The improvement is realized by the provision of a resistor network with a series string of resistors connected together. Their junctions also connect to the outputs of the rectifiers. Ail intermediate resistors RK have the same value and each end resistor 2RK has twice the value of resistors RK.

The resistor networks are returned to a -12V, source of potential. The pre- energizing network connects the rectified networks together so that each output, when raised in voltage, furnishes current through the network to adjacent outputs. The output that is the maximum is still the highest in amplitude. The neighboring outputs are pulled up and prepared to become the maximum, if the frequency discriminating output moves in that direction. Use of such a network results in superior formant tracking by providing a more continuous formant track and bringing up weak formants in the higher frequencies. At the same time, the linking action...
