Column Skip Device

This apparatus controls the advance of a card through a mechanical unit such as a punch, any number of columns up to some maximum number e.g., 80.

A number is set in counter 10 forming part of a central processing unit indicative of the number of columns a card is to be advanced. Counter pulses at 11 with a control signal at 12 provide an output from And 13. The output from And 13 drives counter 10 and counter 15 located in the mechanical unit. When counter reaches a predetermined number, an output is generated at 16 and operates to disable the counter pulse input at 11.

When the card is to be advanced, a control signal at 18 is applied to And 19 with incremental pulses controlled by the movement of the card. These pulses are applied through Or 22 to drive counter 15 to the same number which produces an output from counter 10. The output 23, derived when this number is reached, terminates the advance of the card and the signals at 18 and 20.
