Abstract

Some of the serially arranged holders of punches in a record card punch are shown. For selective elimination of punch motion, the punches are provided with clutches. These are effective in an axial direction and are actuated by a joint control element. Coupling is achieved through clutch sleeves resembling a bayonet joint.

Axially Effective Clutch

Some of the serially arranged holders of punches in a record card punch are shown. For selective elimination of punch motion, the punches are provided with clutches. These are effective in an axial direction and are actuated by a joint control element. Coupling is achieved through clutch sleeves resembling a bayonet joint.

Cylindrical extension 5 of the lower part 1 of the punch holder protrudes into rotatably arranged clutch sleeve 2. Clutch sleeve 2 has in its lower part two elbow slots 6 and 7 opposed to each other, which extend axially and vertically. From extension 5 the pins 8 and 9 protrude, penetrating slots 6 and 7. Thus, a locking connection is achieved between lower part 1 and sleeve 2, whenever 2 is rotated so that pins 8 and 9 enter the horizontal parts of slots 6 and 7. If pins 8 and 9 are brought by rotation of 2 into the axial parts of slots 6 and 7, then they glide in 2 without effect. Upper part 4, to which punch 3 is attached, protrudes with its cylindrical extension 10 into the top of sleeve 2. Pins 11 and 12 protrude from extension 10 and penetrate horizontal slots 13 and 14. This achieves a locking connection which is independent of the rotational position of sleeve 2. At a right angle to the moving direction of the punches, actuation link 15 is movably arranged. Link 15 has teeth 16 which engage the axial slots of sleeves 2. Its rack 17 and control 18 prevent displacement of the punches and sleeves, when in disengag...
