Data Storage Access Mechanism

The access mechanism doubles the storage capacity of a random access data storage apparatus in which information is recorded on both sides of flexible record strips.

A box containing storage elements passes under the device. The latter takes one of these elements and presents it before a reading or writing head (not shown). This is located on the circumference of the housing 1 of a drum 2. According to the rotation direction of the drum, the element presents either of its two sides in front of the head.

The processing drum 2 is mounted on horizontal pivot 3 for rotational movement in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Housing 1 is provided with a Y shaped guide slot 4 having divergent arms 5 and 6 and a common leg 7 to receive a pickup head. Arm 8 is pivotally connected to drum by pin 9. This is received within slot 10 for adjustment of the position of pick up head 11.

Head 11 is pivotally secured to the free end of arm 8 by pin 12 and leaf spring 13. Head 11 includes jaws 14 and 15 and slot 16 which receive the flexible strip of recording material.
