Transistor 1 is responsive to a signal applied to its base 2 to cut off and, therefore, open one leg of multivibrator 3. While transistor 1 is cut off, capacitor 4 charges toward +V through resistor 5.

Multivibrator Synchronizing Circuit

Transistor 1 is responsive to a signal applied to its base 2 to cut off and, therefore, open one leg of multivibrator 3. While transistor 1 is cut off, capacitor 4 charges toward +V through resistor 5.

When transistor 1 again conducts, the capacitor 4 discharges through it and maintains its conduction by maintaining its collector potential above a critical value. This capacitor discharge prevents noise which would otherwise be produced by potential spikes at the multivibrator output.
