Abstract

A complete value volume adder selectively provides discrete precalibrated volumes of fluid from individual cylinders 10... 13. These have respective volumes bearing a coded relation to one another. The relationship is a binary one. That is, the volumes are 1, 2, 4 and 8. Energization of associated solenoids 14... 17 drives fluid outwardly from the cylinders through a check valve 18 open in the direction of the arrow, a sign valve 19 positionable by a double acting solenoid 20 to pass fluid selectively along either add line 21 or subtract line 22. Fluid so added to the lines 21, 22 conditions the control valve 23 to pass high pressure fluid from line 24 to one side of an accumulator cylinder 25, while simultaneously connecting the opposite side to a sump.

Assume sign valve 19 is actuated to the position shown and that fluid is being provided through the valve 18 into line 21 exerting force against the upper end of the control valve spool while simultaneously connecting the lower end of valve 23 via subtract line 22 and sign valve 19 to the accumulator. This moves the spool of valve 23 downwardly opening high pressure line 24 to add line 26 and also connecting subtract line 27 to sump. The pressurized fluid drives spool 28 to effect movement of load and a measuring spool 29. The latter movement serves to force fluid along subtract line 22 toward the spool of valve 23 exerting an upwardly directed force.
