Abstract

The magnetic power controller 10 in (1) has opposed cup shaped cores 12 and 14 of magnetic material with central bosses 13 and 15, respectively. Cylindrical shell 18 and central core 20 of magnetic material complete the magnetic circuit. Circular shunt control plates 22 and 21 of magnetic material have radial conductors 19 (2). These are either moulded therein or printed thereon and connected to conductors 21 and 23 at the center and the periphery, respectively. They provide radial current paths to furnish cross field control fluxes for controlling leakage flux through the plates.

Input winding 25 on central core 20 is inductively coupled to output winding 27 which is connected in series with buck boost winding 28 on boss 13. A control flux in control plate 22 is derived from control winding 30 on boss 15 to control the direction and value of the voltage derived from winding 28 for load regulation purposes.

A control current applied to conductors 21 and 23 of the lower control plate 24 provides amplified control for controlling the current in the control plate 22 in accordance with some desired control input to conductors 21 and 23 of lower plate 24.
