Positioning Mechanism

The mechanism is used for positioning a driven member 2 in accordance with control bar 1.

There are many mechanical applications where it is desired to position the driven member 2 which is suspended at four fixed points X. A set of pulleys A, B, C and D corresponds to each of the four support points. These pulleys are connected by two tension loops 3 and 4 for the purpose of simultaneously varying the position of the four points.

Because these tension loops are crossed over at point D, the positions and forces applied to the four support points X are equalized. Control 1 is positioned by devices, not shown.
