Abstract

The apparatus is a transport for testing and disposing of components A while such are in continuous motion. Assemblies of the type shown are disposed side-by-side. Each of the leads, extending from opposing ends of each A (which may be in bulk or taped to other components in a web), is introduced at 9 within a slot formed between members 10 and 11. As an A is advanced parallel to the length of the slot, each lead is engaged between adjacent teeth of revolving sprocket 1. The body of each A also is received in one of the recesses of belt 4. This advances in the indicated direction at the peripheral speed of sprockets 1 and 2. Thus, the component is urged to move parallel to the length of the slot.

Sprocket 1 is insulated from its shaft. As each A lead passes over its insulating hub 5, knife contact 3 scores the lead. It also establishes a connection between the lead and apparatus (not shown) which performs electrical tests on the component.

When an A is advanced by belt 4 to the point where it passes over hardened hub 12 of sprocket 2, a shearing operation is effected by pneumatically controlled knife 7. Such causes a component marked for rejection by the test apparatus to be cut from its position between adjacent components.
