Abstract

The multi-track magnetic head for reading and writing on magnetic media has a housing 10 in which there are a plurality of longitudinally spaced transducers 11. Transducers 11 each include coil 12 embracing a triangularly shaped core 13 having spaced pole tips 14.

Multitrack Magnetic Head

The multi-track magnetic head for reading and writing on magnetic media has a housing 10 in which there are a plurality of longitudinally spaced transducers 11. Transducers 11 each include coil 12 embracing a triangularly shaped core 13 having spaced pole tips 14.

Cores 13 are separated from each other by metallic nonmagnetic spacers 15. In order to minimize cross-talk between transducers 11, a coating of tungsten carbide 16 is flame-plated over the face of housing 10, normally facing the magnetic media. The coating of tungsten carbide 16 is then either machined or etched away to expose pole tips 14.
