Abstract

The mechanism obtains cyclic, relative motion between a transducer 10 and a magnetic tape 12 disposed in a circular path. Magnetic tape 12 is driven from a supply reel 14 to a take-up reel 16 past a guide block 18 having a circular portion 20.

Tape Scanning Apparatus

The mechanism obtains cyclic, relative motion between a transducer 10 and a magnetic tape 12 disposed in a circular path. Magnetic tape 12 is driven from a supply reel 14 to a take-up reel 16 past a guide block 18 having a circular portion 20.

Transducer 10 is mounted on the end of a pivoted arm 22, driven by a continuously moving crank arm 24. Transducer 10 reciprocates adjacent the portion 20 of block 18. It scans the section of magnetic tape that is disposed around the circular portion of the block.

The magnetic tape is either selectively kept at rest relative to the guide block or moved slowly as the tape is scanned. This is under control of the position of the data being read from the tape relative to the circular portion of the block.
