Abstract

A device for obtaining relative motion between a transducer 10 and a magnetic tape 12 is shown. The magnetic tape is mounted on a turntable 14 and the tape is disposed from a supply reel 16 around a circular guide segment 18 at the edge of the turntable and then to the take-up reel 20.

Tape Scanning Device

A device for obtaining relative motion between a transducer 10 and a magnetic tape 12 is shown. The magnetic tape is mounted on a turntable 14 and the tape is disposed from a supply reel 16 around a circular guide segment 18 at the edge of the turntable and then to the take-up reel 20.

The tape is repeatedly scanned by the transducer 10 as the turntable 14 is rotated. The tape may be selectively maintained at rest, driven at a high rate or driven at a low rate past the segment while the tape is being scanned. Such is under control of the position of the information read from the tape relative to a fixed point.
