Abstract

Collet electrode 10 is adapted to fit in holder 20. Electrode 10 functions as one of two electrodes for welding studs such as stud 25 to member 26. Electrode 10 has a longitudinal slot 11 which permits 10 to enclose upon stud 25 under pressure. This occurs as 10 is pushed into holder 20 by upper electrode 30. Hence, the stud 25 is firmly gripped during the welding process.

Collet Welding Electrode

Collet electrode 10 is adapted to fit in holder 20. Electrode 10 functions as one of two electrodes for welding studs such as stud 25 to member 26. Electrode 10 has a longitudinal slot 11 which permits 10 to enclose upon stud 25 under pressure. This occurs as 10 is pushed into holder 20 by upper electrode 30. Hence, the stud 25 is firmly gripped during the welding process.

Electrode 10 has the facility for accommodating studs of the same diameter but of different lengths by means of adjustable stop 12. The shank of stop 12 projects through helical spring 13 so as to be embraced by it. Set screw 14 engages spring 13 so that it holds stop 12 tightly in place. The base of stop 12 projects from electrode 10 and abuts against knock-out bar 21 slidably disposed in holder 20. Knock-out bar 21 is actuated by spring-biased piston 22 which is selectively operated by air under pressure. By this arrangement, knock-out bar 21 moves electrode 10 relative to holder 20 so that the grip exerted upon stud 25 by 10 is reduced. Thus, the stud is easily removed from 10. Coolant chamber 23 in holder 20 provides for the cooling of 10.
