Abstract

A drum having depressible stops spaced around its periphery is mounted on a shaft which is to be stepped through a series of rotational steps. Drum 1 is biased to rotate in the direction of the arrow by a torsion spring. The depressible drum stops 2 are mounted in slots cut parallel to the axis of rotation of 1 and are limited in radial movement by the ring 3.

Escapement

A drum having depressible stops spaced around its periphery is mounted on a shaft which is to be stepped through a series of rotational steps. Drum 1 is biased to rotate in the direction of the arrow by a torsion spring. The depressible drum stops 2 are mounted in slots cut parallel to the axis of rotation of 1 and are limited in radial movement by the ring 3.

Each of these depressible stops 2, which are spring loaded outwardly, sequentially engage the face of fixed stop 4. Escapement is under control of solenoid operated release blade 5 which depresses 2 so that it may escape 4. Release blade 5 is flexible so that it deflects as 1 turns and imposes a minimum frictional drag on 2.
