Abstract

Control device 8 permits remote manipulation of objects such as dials, knobs, push buttons and toggle switches. Remote control shaft 10 follows accurately the motion of operator shaft 12 in both rotation and displacement. Rod and universal joint assemblies 17 and 18 are fixed on guide discs 14 and 16. Rod and universal joint assembly 20 is rotatable through both 14 and 16. Assemblies 17, 18 and 20 are rotatable in and slidable through support housing 22. By incorporating adapter 24 on an instrument shaft, not shown, the spring 26 loaded control tip 28 is readily inserted in it at an angle to the remote control shaft for remote manipulation of the instrument shaft.

In operation, the control tip 28 is positioned by pushing, pulling, nutating or revolving the operation shaft 12, the motion of the operator's hand thus being transferred to the control tip. Assemblies 17 and 18 can be rotatable on guide discs 14 and 16. By coupling each to an operator shaft and a remote control shaft, additional flexible control of remotely located objects can be obtained.
