Alpha-Numeric Shift Register

The shift register for shifting both numeric or alphabetic data includes ten trigger stages 0...9. Numeric data is applied to the register from data source 10 only. Both data sources 10 and 11 supply alphabetic data.

Data is shifted along the register under control of unit 12, arranged to apply control pulses. Such is either through line 13 when data from data source 10 only is applied or through line 14 when data is applied from both data sources. The pulses are applied to AND's to control the routing of data between the triggers.

Due to these pulses, data, when applied from source 10 only, is shifted through triggers 9 to 0 in turn to provide pulses on output terminal 15. When data is applied from both sources, one set is applied to trigger 9 and is shifted through triggers 9, 7,5,3 and 1 in turn to provide pulses on output terminal 16. The other set is applied to trigger 8 and shifted through triggers 8, 6,4,2, and 0 in turn to provide pulses on output terminal 17.
