Pluggable Fiber Optics Data Searching Apparatus

The photo-electric data comparing device employing pluggable flexible light pipes detects the inclusive, or exclusive, presence of a desired combination of code perforations in a record member.

The light pipes are preferably constructed of a flexible plastic material having the requisite optical properties to permit of their selective insertion in the holes provided in the light masks 11 and 12. Perforated record member 10 is stepped through 11 and 12 so as to expose each successive character to comparison with the plugged combination.

The light pipes 13... 17 provide a serial light path from the light source 18 to the photo-detector 19 which includes all of the desired holes in the combination 111001. An output from the photo-detector 19 manifests the inclusive presence of the desired holes. Where the exclusive presence of these same holes is required, an additional light source 20 and photo-detector 21 are used. These connect to NOT 22 in the output of the photo-detector 19. This arrangement permits an output only if the desired holes and no others are present.
