Abstract

The electromagnet relay assembly is used in an oil-saturated atmosphere. The relay includes a spring-loaded armature 1, an outer magnet yoke 2 and coil pole pieces 3 and 4 aligned between the legs 5 and 6 of the yoke. The armature area which contacts the coil pole pieces is raised slightly (. 002 ) by shim 7. Thus, the armature is elevated off the legs 5 and 6 when it is sealed at both coil pole pieces.

The electromagnet relay assembly is used in an oil-saturated atmosphere. The relay includes a spring-loaded armature 1, an outer magnet yoke 2 and coil pole pieces 3 and 4 aligned between the legs 5 and 6 of the yoke. The armature area which contacts the coil pole pieces is raised slightly (. 002 ) by shim 7. Thus, the armature is elevated off the legs 5 and 6 when it is sealed at both coil pole pieces.

The lever arm between the armature return spring 8 and the pivot point (pole piece 3) is longer when the armature is sealed than when the armature is released and the pivot point shifts to leg 5 of the yoke. With this construction a greater mechanical advantage is provided to overcome the residual effect of the magnet as well as stickiness due to oil at the seal points at the ends of the pole pieces.
