Tunnel diode 1 is in a bridge like network with resistors 2, 3, 4, 13 and 14. Current sensing conductors 6 and 7 are surrounded by sensing transformers 8 and 9 to indicate the presence or absence of a current in the conductors.

Windings 11 and 12 on each transformer read and sense the current condition in conductors 6 and 7. Diode 1 is set to either of two different operating resistance values by a control pulse applied through capacitor 15 to the diode anode.

The resistance values in conjunction with the parameters of diode 1 are such that, when a bias voltage is applied to the network by voltage supply 5, the current conditions in conductors 6 and 7 are determined by the state of diode 1.

Thus, in one diode state the current in conductor 6 is zero. Simultaneously, the current in conductor 7 has a significant value. When diode 1 is in its other state, the conductor current conditions are reversed.
