Forms Sorter And Cutter

The forms sorter and cutter device can be installed as an in line attachment to an IBM Type 1403 printer or the like. It sorts and stacks plies of forms into individual pockets. It also disposes of the carbon strips before sort and cutting operations. It also cuts the forms into any desired length up to 12 inches.

Multi-ply continuous form 10 has superposed form strips 11 and carbon strips
12. These have rows of pin feed holes 13 arranged across the strips and transverse to their direction of feed. The rows of holes 13 are spaced 12. 5 inches apart and are located on the one-half inch medial strips 14 between individual forms. The form strips only are fed into the sorter cutter device by a pair of feed rolls 15. This is after the carbon strips 12 are deleaved at right angles from the assembly by being hand threaded onto the pin feed device 16. From feed rolls 15, the individual plies of form strips 11 are each hand threaded onto a MYLAR* belt drive unit 17. Each MYLAR belt has three rows of feed pins 18 which are spaced at equal distances of 12. 5 inches.

The belts are driven from the printer and tape control is used to control spacing, skipping, etc. Each belt conveys its associated form strip to a double cut off knife 19. Such is solenoid operated under control of the printer tape to cut off medial strips 14. Strips 14 are discarded into individual containers 20 and the cut forms are fed by means of pairs of feed rolls 21 into stacker bo...
