Carbide Die

The die is made from a hard material such as tungsten carbide and is used in punching rectangular openings with sharp corners.

Die 10 comprises a base member 12 which is machined to an L-shaped cross-section. Portions of the upstanding portion 14 are machined away to produce openings 16 in member 12. Bars 18 and 20 of the hard material are then secured to each side of portion 14 by an epoxy adhesive or by clamping to form rectangular die openings 22 having sharp corners.
