Stabilizing Band For Electrostatic Clutch

The electrostatic clutch 11 has a drum 13 and a work band 15. Stabilizing band 17 is arranged around at least a portion of drum 13 and is in continuous contact with it.

Stabilizing band 17 is pulsed by biasing pulses from source 14.

This causes clutch 11 to have characteristics as though the clutch were being used at a certain minimum rate. Stabilizing band 17 thus tends to eliminate any variations in the clutch response time due to variations in the frequency of the operating pulses.

A continuous voltage instead of voltage pulses can be applied to band 17.
