Abstract

The feeding device for use with a straddle grinding machine has a clamp for accurately securing the workpiece in position as it is being fed to, ground at and removed from the work station. The clamp holds a workpiece having a slot so that one side of the slot is against a rib on a work holder, regardless of the variable width of the slot.

Work Holder for Grinder

The feeding device for use with a straddle grinding machine has a clamp for accurately securing the workpiece in position as it is being fed to, ground at and removed from the work station. The clamp holds a workpiece having a slot so that one side of the slot is against a rib on a work holder, regardless of the variable width of the slot.

The work piece is firmly positioned on work holder 2, which is attached to disc 1, by tapered pins 4 and 6 extending downwardly from clamp 3. Clamp 3 is spring-biased into engagement with the work piece. Rotation of disc 1 in a given direction feeds the work piece to the grinding station and rotation in the opposite direction removes the work piece.

During removal, roller 13 contacts cam 14 which causes clamp 3 to rotate about shaft 12 and lift itself away from the work piece. Clamp 3 then contacts pin 10 and is rotated by it out of the plane of the disc. The work piece, being exposed, can now be removed and a new work piece substituted for it.
