Salvaging Ferrite Cores

The method reclaims overfired Mg-Mn ferrite cores which exhibit high disturbed 0 and low disturbed 1 signals.

The overfired cores are given a brief heat treatment at a temperature in the range from 900 to 1100 degrees C for a period ranging from one-half to three minutes. Following this, the cores are placed on a metal plate and cooled in air. This technique lowers the amplitude of the disturbed 0 signal, raises the value of the disturbed 1 output by increasing the coercive force. The 1 to 0 ratio is increased, making the previously overfired cores acceptable.
