Electronic Compensation of Ringing Caused by Magnetic Read-Back Head Load

This circuit compensates for the ringing effect of reactive loading on the output signal of an electromagnetic head.

The circuit comprises a transistorized feedback amplifier 10. The feedback loop consists of an R-L-C network 12 in series with a paralleled RC network 14. A forward path RC network 16 completes the circuit.

The element values of network 12 are taken as the element values of the head equivalent circuit. The element values of networks 14 and 16 are the same as the reactive load seen by the magnetic head in its actual circuit configuration,
i.e., the impedances of its cable, selection gate, and pre-amplifier. Then the circuit has a transfer function inverse to that of the head and its load thus compensating for distortions caused by the load.
