Abstract

The printer has two banks 1, 2 of transversely aligned printing hammers arranged along opposite runs of a single endless chain 3 that carries the type fonts, such as A, B, C, etc. Rolls 4 feed a card rightward along a defined path transversely of chain 3. As the card is fed between the chain and a ribbon 5, the hammers of bank 1 print on one face of the card.

Selective Chain Printer

The printer has two banks 1, 2 of transversely aligned printing hammers arranged along opposite runs of a single endless chain 3 that carries the type fonts, such as A, B, C, etc. Rolls 4 feed a card rightward along a defined path transversely of chain 3. As the card is fed between the chain and a ribbon 5, the hammers of bank 1 print on one face of the card.

The card then enters a suitable reverser 6 which feeds the card leftward transversely of chain 3 and into takeaway feed rolls 7. As the card moves leftward between chain 3 and a ribbon 8, the hammers of bank 2 print on the opposite face of the card.

The reverser 6 comprises a driven roll 9 which drives two idler rolls 10, 11. Rolls 9, 10 drive the card into contact with a resilient finger 12 which yields and stores energy until the rear edge of the card leaves rolls 9, 10. The stored energy then urges the card leftward into contact with roll 9 which carries the front edge down into the bite of rolls 9 and 11.
