Abstract

Data is recorded on the ten data tracks 1 through 10. All data is entered through write head 12 which writes the data in track 1. The data is then read from track 1 by a read head 13 and immediately written into track 2 by a write head 14. The data in track 2 is then similarly transferred, by similar read and write heads, successively to tracks 3 through 10. Thus, all data enters from serial write head 12 and processes to the right on the drum. It is eventually eliminated when new data is recorded in track 10. Erase heads may be provided on each track after the read head corresponding to head 13 in track 1 and before the write head corresponding to head 14 in track 2. Data in all of the tracks 2 through 10 is available through parallel read heads 15.
