Abstract

Each modular feed roll and guide assembly comprises mating rubber rimmed feed rolls 1 and 2 driven by shafts 3 and 4, respectively, journaled in needle bearings 5 pressed into a bearing block 6. Pulleys 7 transmit power to and from shaft 4 via belts (not shown). Shaft 4 transmits power to shaft 3 through mating friction drive rolls 8 and 9.

Feed Roll and Guide Assembly

Each modular feed roll and guide assembly comprises mating rubber rimmed feed rolls 1 and 2 driven by shafts 3 and 4, respectively, journaled in needle bearings 5 pressed into a bearing block 6. Pulleys 7 transmit power to and from shaft 4 via belts (not shown). Shaft 4 transmits power to shaft 3 through mating friction drive rolls 8 and 9.

The feed roll assembly is mounted on a guide plate 10, and the feed rolls 1 and 2 are set at proper distances relative to document guides 11. Then the roll and guide assembly is mounted to a side frame 12 having holes to receive the friction drive rolls 8 and 9. The feed rolls 1 and 2 project forward of the guide plate 10 and the pulleys 7 project rearward of the frame 12. The rubber rims on rolls 1 and 2 deform as necessary to accept documents of varying thicknesses.
