High Speed Reader

This device reads a card memory. An information card 10 comprising a sheet of metal foil 11 sandwiched between two paper or insulating layers 12 is perforated and fed.

The reader comprises two plates 14 and 16 of insulating material in the opposing faces of which wires 15 and 17 are imbedded but exposed. The drive wires 15 run in loops parallel to the columns of index positions of the card. The sense wires 17 follow a grid like configuration. This places a portion of each wire 17 in parallel with its associated wire 15 at each index position.

To read a card positioned between plates 14 and 16, each column is aligned with a wire 15 and its associated wire 17, Each of the drive wires 15 is pulsed in succession until the entire card is read.

An inductive coupling is effected at each perforation between the associated wires 15 and 17. This coupling is sensed over wire 17.
