Abstract

Two spaced jogglers 1 (only one is shown) pat cards 2 into a compacted aligned stack 3 in a hopper 4. Cards are fed into the hopper, generally in the direction of the arrow, from a file feed (not shown). As each joggler is oscillated by a shaft 5, a finger 6 taps the rear edges of the incoming cards with a blow that is at substantially right angles to the plane of such cards. Below the finger 6 is a series of steps 7 each having a riser which is parallel to the striking surface of the finger.

Hopper Card Joggler

Two spaced jogglers 1 (only one is shown) pat cards 2 into a compacted aligned stack 3 in a hopper 4. Cards are fed into the hopper, generally in the direction of the arrow, from a file feed (not shown). As each joggler is oscillated by a shaft 5, a finger 6 taps the rear edges of the incoming cards with a blow that is at substantially right angles to the plane of such cards. Below the finger 6 is a series of steps 7 each having a riser which is parallel to the striking surface of the finger.

A joggler of this configuration strikes the incoming cards in such a way as to prevent the trailing edges of such cards from curling or bending upward. If such curling is permitted to occur, a card settles with its curled-up, trailing edge against the rear wall 8 of the hopper, This prevents the card from being picked by picker 9 and advanced through throat 10 into feed rolls 11.
