Abstract

Images recorded on a heat sensitive film 10 are developed by holding it between two heated platens 11. Platens 11 have a Teflon* coated surface to keep them from sticking to the film. They are each fixed to a support member 12 which is arranged to be moved laterally as well as rotationally.

Thermal Energy Limited Film Heater

Images recorded on a heat sensitive film 10 are developed by holding it between two heated platens 11. Platens 11 have a Teflon* coated surface to keep them from sticking to the film. They are each fixed to a support member 12 which is arranged to be moved laterally as well as rotationally.

Lateral movement of members 12 locates platens 11 for placement on a pair of controlled heat hotplates 14 of an encapsulated heating element 13. To help platens 11 make full contact with plates 14, they are mounted to members 12 by a resilient leaf 15. Additional flexing to provide surface alignment as well as low heat transfer from platen 11 to leaf 15 is achieved by a resilient strut 16. Solenoid actuated bell cranks 17 provide lateral positioning of platens 11. By suitably controlling the action of bell cranks 17, two or more columns of images 18 can be developed on the film. * Teflon is a trademark of DuPont.
