Abstract

A drive shaft 1 is coupled to output shaft 2 through spring clutch 3. When clutch latch 4 is free of detent on the clutch sleeve 5, drive shaft 1 wraps spring 6 tightly about the two shafts to drive the output shaft 2.

Improved Spring Clutch

A drive shaft 1 is coupled to output shaft 2 through spring clutch 3. When clutch latch 4 is free of detent on the clutch sleeve 5, drive shaft 1 wraps spring 6 tightly about the two shafts to drive the output shaft 2.

Rotation of clutch sleeve 5 is stopped by positioning clutch latch 4 to engage the shoulder 7. This causes spring 6 to unwrap and disengage shaft 1 from shaft
2. Rotation of output shaft 2 continues until detent 8 engages detent latch 9. Keeper 10 drops in behind detent 8 to hold the output shaft in the precise position desired.
